Americans and the American government during the post-Civil War era held different ideas about how Native Ame?

Out here in the west, they sent treaty commissioners to negotiate for our lands. The ancestors negotiated in good faith, and most of our lands were ceded. Congress never ratified our treaties. The commissioners and their deals were worthless. The govt put our lands up for homestead, and then put the leftovers into national forests. This left us as homeless paupers in our own country. These days when we walk where we lived, the pounding holes and arrowheads and obsidian chips found there belong to the US govt. We have no right to even gather acorns any more with out a govt permit.
