Which Belkin router question and how do I determine the physical data rates?

Your local speed will depend on where the router is relative to the machine, and the router should be as high as possibly and clear of all obstructions. Also not too close to any wall. And make sure they are not on the same channel. Your speed to the Internet will depend on the bandwidth your ISP supplies. This is typically only up to about 20 Mbps many are still much lower than that. 8Mbps is common. So a faster router will not help with actual Internet speed.
