How do you rectify that most people, even Christians, are on the path to destruction?

And the message of love? I have heard many just interpret "love" as by how kind you are to someone and how you live with integrity etc...but I am starting to question that. The love Jesus had was a love that told the truth. For example, if parents really want their children to be prepared to withstand the attacks of the enemy and stay on the straight and narrow, they will discipline them and teach them out of love. Many people think loving your kids is giving them material gifts, giving them what they want, focusing on their personal achievement in terms of education, sports, career, etc....but really, that leads them on a path of worldliness, selfishness, coveting, and destruction, so that is in fact not love...what are your thoughts?
